Iowa Wild and SCHEELS Teach OOD Kids Floor Hockey

The Iowa Wild, in partnership with SCHEELS and Opportunity on Deck, offered a free floor hockey clinic to boys and girls in third and fourth grade. The event was held Wednesday, March 6 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. “While our team is competing on the ice for an intense playoff push, our players enjoyed getting out into the Des Moines community and be an inspiration to so many. Go Wild!” said Lauren Holmes, Client Services Coordinator.

Continued Holmes, “We are happy to partner with such a terrific non-profit and one of our fantastic corporate partners to put on such a unique event. The Iowa

Wild strives to grow the sport of hockey here in Des Moines by offering various youth hockey programs. We would like to thank everyone who worked so hard to make this event possible and excited to see it grow for years to come.”

The one-day Floor Hockey Pop-In Practice featured players from the Iowa Wild teaching participants a different skill at each of three stations. The Iowa Wild, in conjunction with SCHEELS, provided t-shirts, water bottles, equipment and snacks for the event.

“We are excited to partner with Opportunity on Deck and the Iowa Wild to bring this fun opportunity to these boys and girls.  Partnering with these two amazing organizations that already enrich our community and touch the lives of so many, makes this event so rewarding,” remarked Christy Christense, SCHEELS Public Relations and Marketing Leader.

This is the first partnership between the three organizations. “One of our goals as an organization is to bring new experiences and expose our kids to new and different sports,” said Dylan DeClerck, Executive Director of Opportunity on Deck. “Working with the Iowa Wild and SCHEELS gives our kids a chance to learn a sport they might not see every day and we are excited about the future of this partnership.”
